Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
The media plays a significant role in shaping adolescents' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors concerning sexual health. With the proliferation of digital platforms and traditional media, adolescents are exposed to diverse messages about sexuality, relationships, and health risks. In Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State, where cultural norms often limit open discussions about sexual health, media serves as a critical source of information (Ibrahim & Musa, 2024). While some media content promotes responsible behavior and awareness, other forms expose adolescents to misinformation or unhealthy sexual norms. This study examines the influence of media consumption on the sexual behaviors of adolescents in Fufore, highlighting both risks and opportunities for media-driven education.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Adolescents in Fufore face challenges related to early sexual initiation, unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), partly due to inadequate sexual health education. Media has the potential to address these issues by providing accurate information, yet it can also contribute to risky behaviors if the content is unregulated or misleading. Despite the critical role of media, there is limited research on how it influences adolescent sexual behavior in Fufore. This study seeks to bridge this gap, exploring both the positive and negative impacts of media on adolescent sexual health (Yusuf & Garba, 2025).

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is important for educators, parents, health practitioners, and media developers. It provides insights into the relationship between media and adolescent sexual behavior, emphasizing the need for regulated, educational content. The findings will inform interventions aimed at leveraging media to promote responsible sexual behavior and improve adolescent health outcomes in Fufore.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on adolescents in Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State, examining their media consumption patterns and its influence on their sexual behaviors.
